Social Distancing – Physical Distancing?

The WHO has started using the phrase physical distancing instead of social distancing. Whilst I agree with physical distancing when you are grocery shopping – sometimes I want to shriek “keep your distance”, but social distancing is my preferred phrase. The word social to me means we are still connected and communicating.

I am one of those people guilty of complaining about Auckland’s traffic – too many cars, too many empty buses clogging up our streets. Now when I look at our empty streets, deserted commercial offices and vacant retail malls I would happily return to what life was like pre Covid-19.

I miss the hustle and bustle of daily life.

I miss working side-by side my amazing colleagues.

I miss seeing them every day, laughing with them, sharing stories.

I miss face to face interviewing.

I miss client meetings.

I miss my morning Allpress coffee

I miss the daily banter that you have living in a thriving city.

I miss retail therapy at my favourite boutique.

I am craving company and we are just into week 2 of self-isolation.

I miss all those human connections that you have on a daily basis when you are part of a community.

I am wired to connect. Zoom, Skype and FaceTime are filling the gap but I am looking forward to the time when I can enjoy real eye contact and real live connections

Meanwhile I am staying connected and staying social and enjoying the great meals that my hubby is cooking. Did I mention he now bakes bread and yummy Cornish Pasties!
