It all started for me in London countless years ago when I arrived fresh from New Zealand on my OE. I arrived at the right time – Recruiters were in high demand as London was experiencing economic growth and labour shortages.
Being a Recruitment Consultant was the perfect career for me. It was well paid, purposeful and was 100% about people and relationships. It was easy for me to fall into recruitment and impossible to leave.
I love recruiting – it excites me, rewards me and challenges me every day. Recruiting is not simply, finding people, placing them in jobs and getting paid. It is all about people and relationships. Essentially, I introduce people to one another. It is a bit like dating, match making, acting as a wedding celebrant and then ensuring that the two happy people work well together for ever after. To achieve this is no easy task, but when everything aligns there is no other job quite like recruiting. Over the years I have morphed into a trusted advisor – not just through longevity but by retaining integrity and giving people the outcomes they want. I not only help people achieve their dream job, I help create and shape opportunities for them. I talk to business people every day – listening and learning about new trends, projects, technology and topics of the day. When everything aligns, I get tasked with the responsibility of finding quality people with hard-to-find skills on an exclusive basis. I get referrals and recommendations from people I placed decades ago. Woo Hoo! Today recruitment is a blend of proactive sourcing, sales, networking, nurturing, influencing decision making, psychology and being brave. For me the best thing about recruiting is, it is a human driven business. This human element is irreplaceable and this is where I add real value.
