In my opinion as an industry veteran, I believe human judgment remains the best assessment of character, emotional intelligence and cultural fit. AI has become a fixture in modern recruitment with many hiring managers trusting it to assist in hiring decisions. AI can sort data, but people still spot those subtle red flags or spark that turns a new hire into a great one. AI tools can improve efficiency but the hiring decisions still need to belong to a human.
The best recruiting decisions are made when people communicate. Technology may help identify candidates but people still decide who gets hired and in the Insurance world this matters. Insurance recruitment can be complex and complex recruiting usually needs someone who genuinely understands company culture, client personalities, legal compliances and the why behind the career move. Many successful insurance careers do not follow perfectly linear paths. By leveraging core skills people can transition from customer service, to claims, pivot to underwriting and advance into risk management or Broking. These career paths make sense to experienced insurance Recruiters because they understand the context behind them. This is one reason specialised niche recruiting remains so valuable. Experience is not just about where you worked. It is about how your experiences connect. Niche recruiters who are good at what they do can often recognise raw talent that AI might filter out. And most importantly from my perspective – the best opportunities are not always found on job boards. Many specialised roles start with conversations.
· Conversations that lead to opportunities
· Conversations that reveal a candidate’s true career journey, challenges and motivations
· Conversations with people who do not fit a rigid keyword profile
· Conversations with people that assess cultural alignment
· Conversations that build real trust
· Conversations that interpret nuances because the skilled recruiter looks far beyond the keywords on a resume
Artificial intelligence is changing recruiting. Recruiters, hiring managers and candidates need to understand how these tools work but it is equally important not to overestimate what technology can do. AI should not define hiring but play a support role. AI might get your foot in the door but it is human relationships that open the door wide. THE BEST HIRING DECISIONS ARE ALWAYS MADE BY PEOPLE!
