What was life before COVID-19? Did we appreciate everything we were able to do each day? Did we enjoy going to work? Did we enjoy life?
During this time things have changed; I believe things will stay changed for a long while, in fear of what was taken from us for so little of time, could be again.
We may all be self-isolating at home, locked away from the world but the truth is we have never been closer with each other. With how advanced social media is you would think we would have been closer before but that wasn’t the case. We were too consumed by the social media world that we didn’t have time for people. We had time to post a photo, likes some photos, scroll through Facebook, check some stories but never time to interact with one another and talk.
We are now calling our parents and friends to check up on them more than ever before, we are spending time with our children. Yes, you might think it is stressful but when will you ever get this opportunity again? The chance to just be with your children without any interruptions, real family time some families may have never experienced for more than a few hours on a weekend. We are having virtual face to face talks with people that we have never had before, we are not distracted on our phones whilst we sit opposite each other at a dinner table we are wanting to talk and that is what is bringing us all so close.
We either loved our job or hated it, we complained that we had to get up early and go to work all day, when all we wanted to do was sleep in and spend a day at home watching some Netflix, but now that is our only option and what does that result in? All we want to do is go to work. We crave it. We want to see people, we want to socialize, we want to see our morning Barista on the way to work, we want to have the option to grab a quick lunch with a coworker during the day but all of what we didn’t enjoy before is now what we crave the most.
Maybe, just maybe this is a way to realise how lucky we are, the options we had and will have again. Appreciate the life we were given and after this time is over may we continue the same, stay connected and talk. I believe when we are able to go back to work, you will see companies thrive in a way you have never seen before.
