The events of the past few months have reminded us how connected, resilient and adaptable we are. Humankind has faced huge uncertainty in the past – Wars, the Great Depression and more recently the GFC. In my years of experience in recruiting never before has the business landscape been more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. When you are steering down the barrel facing your survival you can do one of 2 things – give up or adapt. I choose to adapt. I believe that it is this ability to adapt that is inbred into the KIWI mindset that will get us through. External events are so often out of our control and bring chaos and uncertainty into our somewhat tranquil lives. As Victor Frankl said, “Everything can be taken from humankind but one thing: the last of human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.” If history has taught us anything it is that from every event we have experienced, we have become better. Better services, better products, better business models and better people. In many cases entirely new industries have emerged. Exciting times are ahead if we choose the right attitude, the right mindset and adapt.
