I have spent virtually my entire working life in recruitment and I still love what I do.
So why have I stayed in recruitment for the last three plus decades? Because quite simply Recruitment is all about people. It is about building trust with people – clients and candidates. It is about engaging in meaningful conversations. It is about going beyond a persons resume and digging deep to find out their motivations, goals and aspirations. It is about understanding a company’s vision and culture and knowing where you can add value.
Human beings crave connections and meaningful relationships. When you treat people as an individual not a transaction or a commodity you are on the right path to creating a positive experience. Recruitment has never been just about filling a vacancy; it’s about building long-lasting relationships, delivering on your promises and never forgetting at the heart of the process is another human being.
The recruitment industry is competitive and turning towards AI rapidly, but at its heart, successful recruitment still comes down to people. I believe that the more the world uses AI to manage their recruitment the more important the human interaction will become. Recruitment started as a relationship driven business and today it still is – so let’s not recruit like robots.
My philosophy has not changed since my first day in recruitment – Keep people at the heart of things – It is the human connection that is my competitive edge!
